Identification of future breeding potentials for more climate protection in crop production (KlimZucht)

Assessment of the contribution of breeding progress to the reduction of the carbon footprint

Objective

Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through breeding progress

Methodology

  • Analyses of existing variety trial datasets using mixed models – considering genotype × environment × management
  • Assessment of the carbon footprint by means of life cycle assessment
  • Comparative assessment based on historical variety trial data (value test data) vs. current "vintage trial data"

Climate effect under consideration

Climate protection through improved varieties with increased resource efficiency as well as resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses
